Stars Fire Marc Crawford

According to various reports, the Stars have fired head coach Marc Crawford two days after a season in which the team exceeded expectations but could not overcome late season injuries and hang onto a playoff spot. Dallas did rally in the season's last week by winning four straight, but after the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks early on the season's last day, the Stars were unable to take advantage, losing 5-3 to an undermanned Minnesota Wild club.

General manager Joe Nieuwendyk hired Crawford soon after his appointment two years ago and said that Crawford taught the style that Nieuwendyk wanted to play. But after allowing 254 and 233 goals the past two seasons, the club apparently decided that it needed a new voice.

Dallas now enters an offseason filled with uncertainty without a head coach. Tom Hicks and his creditors are still trying to sell the team, while the best player on the roster, Brad Richards, enters free agency.
