BCS Championship Game 2011: Alabama And LSU Are In, Oklahoma State Is Out

Oklahoma State has officially been left out of the BCS Championship game. Despite their thrashing of Oklahoma Saturday night, voters and computers were not convinced that the Cowboys were the second best team in the country.

The coaches poll (and the AP poll) kept OSU at No. 3, and the Harris poll voters did the same. The Cowboys still could hope that the computers – which liked the Big 12 much better than human voters – would make up the difference. They did not, and Alabama will play LSU for the national championship game.

Mike Gundy said after the results were released that he believes in the [BCS] system. He may be one of very few OSU fans, alumni and followers who does, and he’s certainly in the vast minority across the country. OSU beat more BCS ranked teams and more above-.500 teams, but could not not overcome their loss to Iowa State.

Oklahoma State will instead face Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl on Monday night, January 2. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
