It was beginning to appear likely that the Rangers would see themselves as priced out of C.J. Wilson’s market before it even came to a head, but Thad Levine met with Don Garber, Wilson’s agent, Wednesday at the GM meetings in Milwaukee. Levine then told gathered media that there is ‘real’ interest from the Rangers. Garber echoed that sentiment:
They showed significant interest in trying to bring C.J. back and are willing to treat him as any other team would in the free-agent process. They’re going to be more aggressive than I thought. I assumed they were going to sit on the back burner. Now, it seems like they’re putting him on the front burner.
With the Angels and Yankees both in the middle of things, and given that the Rangers were hesitant to go hard after Wilson before he reached free agency, it’s difficult to see them winning this war. They do appear ready to fight for their ace, however.
