Cliff Lee Will Start Sunday

MLB.com reports that Cliff Lee appears ready to make his start Sunday as the anchor in the Yankees series. Lee has struggled wtih a lower back strain in recent starts and was pounded in his last outing versus the Royals.

With a big lead in the division, the Rangers opted to skip his last start, likely as much for the overall rest as to rest his back, since backs don’t heal in ten days. Lee is among the league leaders in innings, despite missing most of April.

That said, Lee does claim that bis back feels better.

“It’s definitely getting better,” Lee said. “Threw a bullpen basically full go [Tuesday] and felt fine. So it’s definitely a good sign and things are heading the right way.”
