Parcells Takes Step Back In Miami

Bill Parcells is handing Jeff Ireland full control over Dolphins football operations. Parcells will still serve as a consultant, but Ireland will be the guy moving forward.

The Dolphins announced the move in a three-sentence statement Tuesday, five days before the start of the season. The change was part of a long-range plan when the Parcells regime took over at the end of the 2007 season, the statement said.

“This was the intent of the structure put in place in the past,” the Dolphins said.

Parcells is 69, so this could finally be it for him as a lead guy in the league.
