It's Time

The last time the Rangers were in this position, Royce Clayton and Todd Zeile were in the infield. Ivan Rodriguez and Pedro Martinez were battling for an MVP. Carlos Beltran was the Rookie of the Year. The Yankees only had 24 world championships. The Cowboys weren’t even four years from having won a Super Bowl, and no one yet knew who the hell Kurt Warner was. The Atlanta Falcons were defending NFC champs! The World Trade Center stood tall in New York, there had only been one president named Bush, and if you spent any time on the Internet, there was a good chance you’d pop up on Geocities. The No. 1 song on the Billboard charts was “Unpretty” by TLC, having overtaken Enrique Iglesias’s “Bailamos.”

Your regularly scheduled college football will be interrupted today by a potential important moment for the Texas Rangers: win, and the American League West is officially theirs. Something that hasn’t happened in 11 years.

We’ve known this was coming for months now, so a lot of the excitement is sapped, but this is still every bit a very big deal. Watch, cheer and cry if you feel like. It’s Time.
