Four members of the Rangers organization are included on Baseball America's list of top 20 prospects in the rookie level Arizona Summer League:
↵8. Luis Sardinas, SS
14. Carlos Villanueva, 3B
15. Carlos Melo, RHP
19. Teodoro Martinez, OF
The Rangers signed Sardinas as a 16 year old last summer for $1.5 million. He is an excellent defender at short and showed a better bat than expected. Villanueva and Martinez were also products of the Rangers' active interest in international free agency. The pair starred for Texas' Dominican Summer League entry in 2009 before promoting to Arizona for 2010.
Melo was obtained along with pitcher Guillermo Moscoso in return for Gerald Laird two winters ago. His polish had lagged behind his electric stuff, but he made progress this summer.
↵The top ranked player on the list is Mariners outfielder Guillermo Pimentel. Pimentel was widely expected to sign with the Rangers last summer as a 16 year old, but went with the Mariners late in the process.
↵This AZL list is the first of 16 BA league top prospect lists.
