College Football Roundup: Texas Longhorns, TCU and Oklahoma Cruise

New, 1 comment

The big college football game today in the region was of course the No. 17 Florida State Seminoles visiting the tenth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners. There wasn't much drama in this game as Landry Jones and the Sooners dismantled the Seminoles 47-17. Jones passed for 380 yards, completing 30 of 40 passes, for four touchdowns. Oklahoma outscored Florida State in the second and third quarters by a 30-0 margin.

Fourth-ranked TCU won their 15th straight game at home in a 62-7 mauling of Tennessee Tech behind seven rushing touchdowns.

Fifth-ranked Texas overcame a slow start against Wyoming to defeat them 34-7. The Longhorns trailed 7-6 in the second quarter before scoring 28 unanswered points to win. Freshman wide out Mike Davis had a game high seven receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown.

In a battle of two highly ranked teams, second-ranked Ohio State defeated No. 12 Miami, 36-24. Ohio State forced quarterback Jacory Harris to throw four interceptions which was undoubtedly the difference in the game.

Top-ranked Alabama handled the challenge for No. 18 Penn State, winning easily 24-3. The Crimson Tide were without reigning Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram who sat out his second consecutive game.
