Adam Rubin of ESPN New York is reporting that sources say the Texas Rangers are interested in acquiring outfielder Jeff Francoeur from the New York Mets.
Two MLB sources told ESPNNewYork.com that the Texas Rangers are looking for a right-handed-hitting outfielder for the bench and are considering Francoeur.
"His name has definitely been talked about," one source said.
The deal would need to be completed today for Frenchy to be eligible for the postseason roster.
Francoeur has spent the last year and a half with the Mets. In 123 games this year, Francoeur is hitting .236/.293/.369 with 11 home runs. The Rangers decided against signing Brad Hawpe last week since they are interested in acquiring a right handed bat - which Francoeur is. Francoeur has posted a modest .767 OPS against left handed bats this year in only 97 at bats against them.
