Mavericks At The FIBA World Championships

The FIBA World Championships kicked off today and the USA got off to a nice start, as expected.  The US outscored Croatia 26-6 in the 2nd quarter on its way to a 106-78 win over Croatia this afternoon.

Maverick Tyson Chandler saw limited action, with the USA opting for a lineup more suited to the international game by inserting Lamar Odom at center. Chandler finished with 6pts 2blks and 1 rebound playing with the game well out of reach in the 4th.

Russia beat Puerto Rico 75-66

JJ Barea had himself a nice little game. 25pts 4rebs 4 asts.

Greece got by China 89-81

↵

Nick Calathes saw 10 minutes of action contributing 2 points and a rebound.

Former Maverick Great Wang ZhiZhi had a solid game finishing with 15 points.

France stunned Spain 72-66

↵

A nice upset to kick off the championships.

France is going to be a scary team when the Olympics come around. A team of  Noah, Batum,Diaw, Pietrus, Parker and maybe even Beaubois? Not bad at all.

Ian Mahinmi had 5pts 5rbs 2stls and a blocked shot.

The FIBA World Championships continue tomorrow with the USA playing Slovenia at 8:30a.m CT on ESPN2/ESPN3.
