Per T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers placed a claim on Manny Ramirez but another team with a worse record than the Rangers also claimed him.
The Rangers were pushing hard for Ramirez as a right-handed bat and it once again shows that the new ownership group headed by Chuck Greenberg is willing to spend money aggressively in pursuit of a World Series title.
The Dodgers put Ramirez on waivers earlier this week. Any team with a worse record than the Rangers has a priority when it comes to claiming him. The White Sox are below the Rangers and have priority.
