2010 Fan Scouting Reports

Every year, leading baseball researcher Tom Tango puts together Fan Scouting Reports. The 2010 ballots are now up.

I’ll let him explain:

Baseball’s fans are very perceptive. Take a large group of them, and they can pick out the final standings with the best of them. They can forecast the performance of players as well as those guys with rather sophisticated forecasting engines. Bill James, in one of his later Abstracts, had the fans vote in for the ranking of the best to worst players by position. And they did a darn good job.

With that idea in mind, he asks fans of teams to go in and give their individual scouting assessment of every player’s defensive tools. At the end of the process, he compiles and shares the results.

I find this to be an admirable, and at the very least quite interesting, project that I have lent my vote to every year I’ve been aware of it. And I’d like to ask everyone else who regularly watches the Rangers to do so, too. With as much objectivity as you can, scroll down to the Rangers portion (or just click here) and vote for your thoughts on the Rangers. He only has eight from us so far.

Let’s give the Rangers a good sample size and show how dedicated and perceptive our fans can be! Also, voting is fun!
