Rangers' Daniels Open To Adding Brad Hawpe

While not speaking specifically about Brad Hawpe, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels is open to “adding a guy who might be able to help fill a role” according to Jeff Wilson. Hawpe, who is a Fort Worth native, looks like a logical fit for the Rangers while Cruz is out and beyond that as well. While he’s been a below average defender in the outfield, the Rockies have played him at first base sparingly this season and he could be a viable option there for September and October, providing further protection for Nelson Cruz in the lineup once Cruz returns from his injury.

Hawpe has also drawn interest from the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres. He’ll be free to sign with any team on Monday.
