In reporting the above slot deal between Nick Tepesch and the Rangers, Jim Callis gives a portion of Baseball America’s draft profile for Tepesch:
He woud have gone in the first three rounds of the 2007 draft coming out of high school if not for seven-figure bonus demands. He didn’t blossom along the same lines as Max Scherzer, Aaron Crow or Kyle Gibson in three years at Missouri, but he still has potential. A 6-foot-5, 225-pound righthander, he has a 90-94 mph fastball and his arm works well. His command and secondary pitches need improvements, but he made strides in those area this spring.
