Rangers Have Interest In Xavier Nady

Per Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago, the Rangers are interested in acquiring Xavier Nady from the Chicago Cubs now that Justin Smoak has been dealt to Seattle.

Nady signed a one year contract with the Cubs over the winter worth 3.3 million dollars. Per MLBTradeRumors.com, Nady is thus far not expected to be a Type A or Type B free agent. The Cubs will not receive compensation for him in the offseason if he leaves as a free agent, making trading him the only way for the Cubs to net a profit. It shouldn’t take too much for the Rangers to acquire Nady if they are serious about it.

My only apprehension is what the Rangers would add in to make sure the Cubs paid Nady’s salary for the duration of this year. If it’s anything like Michael Main and Molina, forget it. At least there Molina is a rated so far as a Type A free agent, so the Cubs wouldn’t have as much leverage.
