According to Marc Stein a team source says that there is a “good chance” Dampier is not traded this summer.
↵↵↵Sources say Minnesota has been urging Dallas to part with Dampier’s contract and draft considerations in exchange for Al Jefferson, who has three years left on his contract at $42 million. The Mavericks keep telling the Wolves that they won’t surrender Dampier’s contract in a Jefferson deal because they have it earmarked for a Gasol-type trade, such as a theoretical sign-and-trade arrangement for James or as the centerpiece of Dallas’ longstanding pursuit of Paul.

Having Dampier “earmarked for a Gasol-type trade” seems a bit foolish. With Haywood signed, I would have had no problem trading Dampier for Jefferson. The goal is to improve. Jefferson would have accomplished that. A team can not go into an off-season saying it’s Wade/Lebron/Paul or bust. Hopefully, this is just posturing and there is nothing to it. Has to be. If not, a lot of Mavericks fans will be disappointed, to put it lightly.
↵In the meantime, Cliff Lee!!
