AOL Fanhouse: Rangers Showcasing Beltre?

UPDATE: Beltre's been optioned.

Ed Price talks about Cliff Lee rumors, with a little bit on the Rangers.

And Texas will be in on Lee. Some think the recent promotion of Omar Beltre to the majors is to “showcase” him for the Mariners.

I find that a little hard to believe. And if they are, it’s not going well so far.

Also. . .

Why could the Rangers use a top-of-the-rotation starter? FanHouse recently asked two scouts who had been following Texas to name the team’s top starter. One said Colby Lewis, who has 19 big-league wins. The other said Tommy Hunter, who has 13 big-league wins and this year was in the minors until last month.

Career wins is a pretty silly argument for why the Rangers “need” a top of the rotation pitcher. To say nothing of the fact that Lewis has pitched like a TORP for half a season now (we’ll see going forward, of course).
