Per Joe Frisaro, while the Rangers were engaged in trade talks for newly acquired Jorge Cantu, the Rangers brass also inquired about right handed ace Josh Johnson. Texas reportedly offered their "top three prospects" to Florida and were immediately turned away.
↵Obviously, the Rangers won't be getting Johnson but it's certainly interesting to see that they were seriously trying to acquire him. Offering their top three prospects as a starting point is certainly no joke, but Johnson is in the first year of a really team friendly four year deal, so it's no shock to see them turned away. To see that the Rangers have been essentially the most aggressive team this July is pretty impressive given their financial situation.
