A new story from T.R. Sullivan says that Orioles infielder Ty Wigginton and Marlins infielder Jorge Cantu continue to be the most likely targets as the Texas Rangers pursue a right-handed hitting infielder and platoon option for Chris Davis.
Both players have played first and third base this season, and Wigginton has seen significant time at second base. Wigginton had an excellent first two months but has slumped since the start of June and has hit just .212/.256/.353 in July. Cantu has hit just .260/.308/.410 for the season.
Both players are perceived to be strong against left-handed pitching, but neither has a positive lefty split this season.
