A couple of funny quotes from Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams on Monday, one day after rookie wideout Dez Bryant made headlines by refusing to carry Williams’ pads off the field following Sunday’s practice.
Head coach Wade Phillips downplayed the situation, mentioning on Monday to media members that it was no big deal at all inside the locker room and had already been addressed by the Cowboys’ coaching staff.
Williams then jumped in with a few comments, beginning with a quip about how he can’t even get his four-year old son to carry his pads, let alone a rookie teammate.
He continued with:
“Because it’s Dez vs. Roy, that’s why it’s a big story,” Williams said. “It’s all in fun. I had to do it and I was the seventh pick. … If you don’t want to do it, it’s not like I’m going to put a gun to your head and make you do it.”
And most comically, Williams finished with a line about how there were still ways that Bryant was going to have to pay some rookie dues:
“He wants to concentrate on football, and we’re going to let him concentrate on football,” Williams said. “But when we go out to eat, I’m going to be a little bit more hungry and thirsty.”
