The Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves continue to exchange proposals on an Al Jefferson trade and moved closer to a deal over the weekend, according to sources with knowledge of the talks.

The article goes on to say that the Mavericks have eased on their reluctance to trade Dampier, however, they will require Minnesota to take on the contracts of  Deshawn Stevenson and Matt Carroll in exchange.

The insistence from the Mavericks to include Stevenson and Carroll in this deal is perplexing. But, at this point, I think this deal gets done. Al Jefferson is arguably the best player the Mavericks are going to be able to get with Dampier's contract and while he does come with some warts, the allure of seeing what Dirk can do with a true post presence for the first time in his career may be too hard to turn down.

UPDATE: The Jazz have now taken the lead in the Al Jefferson sweepstakes.
