Josh Kosman of the New York Post reports that Mark Cuban's rumored alliance with Jeff Beck and Dennis Gilbert is legitimate.
↵↵↵Cuban has emerged as a bidder for the Texas Rangers, joining forces with former sports agent Dennis Gilbert and Texas businessman Jeff Beck to make a play for the bankrupt baseball team, according to a source close to the situation.
↵"I think Cuban is serious," the source said.
↵
↵↵This time around, Cuban has a decent shot at buying the Rangers even though a bidding group led by Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan is favored by MLB and the team, the source said.
↵
Gilbert represents the most unsettling potential scenario for Rangers fans, since he appears intent on running the team himself. Beck is his money guy, and my guess would be that Cuban would probably be involved primarily in an investment capacity.
↵Whether the addition of Cuban helps (added cash source) or hinders (he isn't a popular prospect with MLB owners) the bid, I don't know.
