According to ESPN Dallas/Fort Worth’s Richard Durrett, Rangers general manager is seemingly excited with what looks to be an underwhelming first four choices for Texas.
Daniels said of Jake Skole, the Rangers' first selection of the draft:
“It’s an exciting, up the middle, premium position, premium athlete,” Daniels said. “He’s a football player and has a great mentality. He’s a gamer.”
As expected, signability came into play with Texas:
“The sense we get with Jake is that he wants to commit to baseball and go out and play and get his career started,” Daniels said. “This is about the player that we really like that was one the board. Signability is something we look into heavily.”
Daniels also spoke briefly of Kellin Deglan, the Rangers second selection of the night at No. 22.
“He’s very athletic behind the plate for a big man,” Daniels said. “He’s got plus arm and plus power. We like the package.”
The draft resumed Tuesday with rounds 2-30.
