The Calder Cup Loves Texas

Saturday night in Hershey gave us a seesaw affair that left the Texas Stars celebrating a last minute road victory and a commanding 2-0 lead in the AHL Calder Cup series.  Former Hershey Bear Travis Morin backhanded a bad-angle shot into the net with just 43 seconds remaining in the 3rd period to send the Stars to a 4-3 win in game 2 of the best-of-7 series.  Enjoy the video highlights.

The Texas Stars feature 20-yr-old Dallas Stars prospect Jamie Benn in their lineup. Benn, writes the DMN’s Mike Heika, has had quite a successful year of hockey and is threatening AHL rookie playoff scoring records. The Hockey News has noticed and reports on Benn’s Calder Cup run with a quality video feature.

Texas comes home in great shape, hosting games 3, 4 and 5 in their Cedar Park barn. The Austin area team will play game 3 Monday night at 7:30. Between now and then check out Defending Big D for game 2 analysis and a game 3 preview – them boys sleep with their sticks over there.

Also, check out some video found at Andrew’s Dallas Stars page – Texas Stars coach Glen Gulutzan’s postgame presser. He’s kind of a young Rick Neuheisel. With a funny accent.
