Calder Cup Goodness

New, 1 comment

The Dallas Stars’ primary farm team, the Austin-area’s Texas Stars, took a 1-0 lead last night in the best-of-seven finals of the Calder Cup – the AHL championship. The Hershey Bears are the defending champs and tough to beat at home, but the Stars broke through with a 3rd period goal from Scott McCulloch to snag a 2-1 road victory.  Check out Defending Big D for the video highlights.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this cup series is that the talented 20-yr-old Dallas Stars prospect Jamie Benn, who got 41 points during the dearly departed NHL regular season, is on the Texas playoff roster and getting his shifts. Benn has 14 goals in 19 AHL playoff games, topping the Calder Cup scoring list.

Hope the experience adds to Benn’s development and pray he doesn’t get injured … and go read Mark’s game 1 write-up over at Andrew’s Dallas Stars page.  Game 2 will be in Hershey Saturday at 6:00 pm central.
