Now that the World Cup is over…

New, 1 comment

America (f yeah) is out of the WC, so it’s over in my book. However, I have some thoughts on soccer.

Offsides is a ridiculous rule. It’s called snowbirding. It’s not the job of the offense to make sure the defense is playing defense. When Shaq is too fat to get back on D and Mo Williams makes a quick steal, should he have to wait for the defense to get back before he makes the pass? Someone explain this to me.

FIFA has to be made up of dudes that didn’t play sports. For the biggest event in their sport, they hire refs straight off of the YMCA fields. Second, they change the ball. And now they’re stubbornly saying that they’ll never adopt a replay / camera system for goal reviews. I’m just baffled by all of this. Can you imagine the Super Bowl with high school football refs, a new rubber ball, and no replay??? Oh and to top it off, every time a safety gets beat deep, we’ll call it offsides and penalize the offense.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve actually really enjoyed the world cup as a whole. I’ll watch the US again in 4 years just like I’ll continue to watch College Football even though I disagree with the system and setup. I do not claim to be an expert on the rules of the game, but I know sports and I know what’s fair. From what I’ve seen, the rules suck, the refs suck, and the governing body of the entire game sucks.

Ok, now all you dorks wearing umbros can rip me and my lack of soccerfutbol knowledge apart. I love you.
