So much for that.

The D-backs and A’s completed a trade Tuesday that sent outfielder Conor Jackson to Oakland and Minor League pitcher Sam Demel to Arizona.

Jackson, 28, was hitting .238 with 11 doubles, one homer and 11 RBIs for the D-backs after missing most of last season due to illness.

↵

Demel, 24, was 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA and six saves in 22 games for Triple-A Sacramento. The right-hander is expected to join the D-backs in Boston on Wednesday, at which time the club will make a corresponding roster move.

This is just extra depressing. I wanted Jackson so badly, I was just concerned about the prospects it would take. I certainly assumd it would take more than Sam Demel. And worse, it helps a division opponent.

For reference, John Sickels believes the A’s just got Conor Jackson for the A’s 18th best prospect, a C+ talent who “could help in the pen if he sharpens up.” That’s it?! I was prepared to part with a lot more.

I’m hoping the team just couldn’t afford the contract the rest of the year so I feel better about the front office just passing on a quality opportunity.
