The D-backs and A’s completed a trade Tuesday that sent outfielder Conor Jackson to Oakland and Minor League pitcher Sam Demel to Arizona.↵
Jackson, 28, was hitting .238 with 11 doubles, one homer and 11 RBIs for the D-backs after missing most of last season due to illness.↵
Demel, 24, was 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA and six saves in 22 games for Triple-A Sacramento. The right-hander is expected to join the D-backs in Boston on Wednesday, at which time the club will make a corresponding roster move.↵
This is just extra depressing. I wanted Jackson so badly, I was just concerned about the prospects it would take. I certainly assumd it would take more than Sam Demel. And worse, it helps a division opponent.↵
For reference, John Sickels believes the A’s just got Conor Jackson for the A’s 18th best prospect, a C+ talent who “could help in the pen if he sharpens up.” That’s it?! I was prepared to part with a lot more.↵
I’m hoping the team just couldn’t afford the contract the rest of the year so I feel better about the front office just passing on a quality opportunity.
