According to a poll of 100 Major League players conducted by ESPN, 53 of the players consider Jim Joyce to be the best umpire in baseball. Which would be fine if this were a poll taken a month ago. Instead, it’s a biased poll that once again shows that baseball is turning one of the worst case scenarios for not having replay into the feel good story of the summer.
↵It doesn't make me feel good, it just makes me feel sick. Instead of using Joyce’s blown call as a way to consider the implementation of instant replay, something everyone on the planet would have been in favor of, we’re getting a story of how wonderful people can be when the rise above failure. The Human Element wins again.
↵I almost wish at this point that Armando Galarraga had punched Jim Joyce in the throat out of rage and Jim Joyce had told the world he hated Perfect Games, baseball, and freedom just so the game of baseball could be have replay and be better for it.
