The 2010 Sun Bowl will feature two high profile yet beleaguered football programs. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Miami Hurricanes in the Sun Bowl this year.
Notre Dame struggled under first-year head coach Brian Kelly, who led the Irish to a 7-5 record. Notre Dame lost to Michigan, Michigan State and Tulsa by a combined eight points en route to their five loss season. Still, the Irish won their last three games, including a win over then-No. 14 Utah, to become bowl-eligible.
The Irish's opponent had an even more disappointing 2010 campaign. The Miami Hurricanes had hopes of returning to their national power status that they had held in the early part of the 2000's, but that did not happen. Instead, the Hurricanes finished second in the ACC Coastal division and head coach Randy Shannon was fired. The Hurricanes will try to end their season on a positive note in the Sun Bowl as their search for a head coach continues.
The Sun Bowl, held in Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas, is set to kick off on New Year's Eve at 2 PM EST.
