We now know one of the participants of the 2011 Cotton Bowl Classic held at Cowboys Stadium. The Texas A&M Aggies received and accepted a bid from the Cotton Bowl selection committee late Tuesday, marking their first Cotton Bowl appearance since Jan. 1, 2005.
The Aggies wrapped up their regular season last Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, against the Texas Longhorns. The Aggies won 24-17, ending their regular season on a six-game winning streak. During that six-game winning streak, the Aggies beat two then-top 10 ranked teams: the Oklahoma Sooners and Nebraska Cornhuskers, both of whom will be playing in the Big 12 title game this Saturday. Texas A&M ended their season with a 9-3 record, 6-2 in conference.
Texas A&M hasn't won a bowl game since the Galleryfurniture.com bowl in 2001 when it defeated TCU 28-9. Since then, the Aggies have appeared in the Cotton, Holiday, Alamo and Independence bowls and lost each of them.
Texas A&M's opponent in the 2011 Cotton Bowl is not yet known.
