By Football Outsiders’ reckoning, the Cowboys currently hold a 56.9% shot of getting a top three pick in the next draft. It gives them a 16.4% shot at the No. 1 overall pick, behind only Carolina and Buffalo.
↵Aside from the difficulty of projecting football, I’m not sure FO’s stats can capture what most people believe they’re seeing on the field: the Cowboys have quit. They’re getting destroyed in games because they don’t even seem to care about competing. If that’s true — and I think it is — then I’d bet their chances of getting the No. 1 are better than that (though I’d still put the Bills first).
↵Hey, there’s still a 0.2% shot at the playoffs!
↵What do you want to see? Do you hope the Cowboys win as much as possible going forward to challenge a .500 record? Do you hope they lose out to try and take No. 1 from the Bills? Do you hope they win just enough to avoid an expensive pick but stay near the top? Do you care?
