The Cotton Bowl Classic, one of the more prestigious non-BCS bowl game, pits an SEC division winner or runner up against a comparable Big 12 team. Both conferences have not only excellent depth, but elite teams at the top as well.
↵It still looks as though the Big 12 will send only one Big 12 team to a BCS bowl game, and that team will be the winner of the Nebraska/Oklahoma title game this weekend. Oklahoma is the highest ranked Big 12 team in the BCS standings, coming in at No. 9. I believe that the Sooners will defeat the Cornhuskers this weekend, earning the BCS bid and Big 12 title and giving Nebraska their last Big 12 in-conference defeat.
↵The SEC will likely offer South Carolina and Florida as their teams for Cotton Bowl participation. Arkansas would be a fitting team to play given that the Cotton Bowl Classic is now held in Jerry Jones' stadium, but Arkansas looks likely to play in a BCS bowl. I doubt South Carolina defeats Auburn, which would leave the SEC East division winner and runner up as possible Cotton Bowl participants.
↵I still expect Nebraska to play in the Cotton Bowl this year as a send-off out of the Big 12, though it wouldn't surprise me to see Oklahoma State or Texas A&M receive the nod as well. As it stands now, I expect the Cotton Bowl to feature Nebraska against South Carolina.
↵The Cotton Bowl Classic will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011.
