The first in-season NCAA men's college basketball rankings were released and the Baylor Bears are ranked 16th in the poll.
Baylor is the fourth highest team ranked from the Big 12 conference. Kansas State is ranked third, the Kansas Jayhawks are seventh and the Missouri Tigers are one spot ahead of Baylor at No. 15.
The Bears will play twice this week. On Tuesday, Baylor will host La Salle before hosting Jackson State on Thursday. Baylor's first test against a ranked opponent won't come until December 18 when the Bears host the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who are currently ranked 12th in the AP poll.
Absent from the AP rankings are the Texas Longhorns, who are having a rough year in athletics thus far. The Longhorns fell to the TCU Horned Frogs in baseball, allowing TCU to advance to their first College World Series. Texas' struggles in football are well documented thus far, falling to the bottom of the Big 12 South standings.
The Longhorns will play the No. 13 Illinois Illini on Thursday in Madison Square Garden. Texas is participating in the 2K Sports Classic which benefits Coaches vs. Cancer.
