The Rangers have announced via press release that they have outrighted Jeff Francoeur after the outfielder cleared waivers and that the veteran has opted for free agency. The club obtained Francoeur in a trade for Joaquin Arias after Arias was removed from the 40-man roster himself in August. He would have had needed one more year to reach free agency, but Texas decided not to keep him.
Francoeur hit .340/.357/.491 in 53 regular season at-bats for the Rangers, but he was just 3-24 in the postseason, playing primarily against left-handed pitchers. You can read the press release here.
