Jason Terry looks to be the default starter at the two-guard position as the Mavericks open the season Wednesday versus the Charlotte Bobcats. Eddie Sefko reports that Terry is likely to start at shooting guard, while Juan Jose Barea appears to be the primary backup point guard. Rookie Dominique Jones received some starts at the two in the preseason, and Dallas once again toyed with a larger lineup with Shawn Marion at small forward and Caron Butler at shooting guard, but Terry appears to be the final answer, at least until Rodrigue Beaubois returns from injury.
With Terry and Butler starting along with Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki and either Brendan Haywood or Tyson Chandler, the rotation will likely consist of those six, Marion, Barea, and possibly Jones or veteran Brian Cardinal. Ian Mahinmi, Steve Novak and Alexi Ajinca will provide depth up front, while DeShawn Stevenson will round out the back court.
Rodrigue Beaubois will not meet the team's goal of opening night for his return. His timetable is still uncertain after a small setback had him back in a walking boot last week.
