Mack Brown, Mike Sherman Talk About Their QBs

In his Monday presser, Mack Brown discussed Garrett Gilbert's unusual day in the Longhorns' upset win in Lincoln.

Gilbert ran 11 times for 71 yards against one of the best defenses in the country last weekend. Head coach Mack Brown said Monday that Gilbert's legs were the missing piece of the offense's identity and that he looked like a completely different athlete on the field.

"He still needs to pass better though," Brown said.

Gilbert was just 4-16 against a top ranked Nebraska pass defense.

After a third straight Aggies loss, Mike Sherman looked to diffuse some of the scrutiny on his QB, Jerrod Johnson.

Coach Mike Sherman said that Jerrod Johnson's throws have sometimes been off the mark but that Johnson has always been a sporadic, streaky quarterback. Johnson's offense has converted 10-of-36 third downs in two games.

Sherman said that every position is up for grabs each week in practice. That, he said, includes the quarterback position.

Sherman is under increasing fire himself, as the Aggies have not seen the offensive evolution that was expected from the former NFL coach.
