Stay connected for news and updates

The Texas Rangers beat the Boston Red Sox by a final score of 5-3 Wednesday night, taking the series two games to one. Derek Holland picks up the win for Texas, improving to 7-5, and Joe Nathan earned his 20th save with a perfect ninth.

The Rangers offense was active all night, taking Red Sox starter Josh Beckett for four runs on nine hits. David Murphy, Craig Gentry, Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz all had RBI, with Cruz's coming on a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to give Texas a crucial insurance run.

Texas improves to 58-39 with the win and keeps their five game lead in the AL West in the face of wins by both the Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland Athletics. The Rangers' homestand continues beginning on Friday, when they host the Chicago White Sox for the first of three games.
