The veteran right-hander has a torn ligament in his pitching arm that will sideline him for the rest of the season.
Lewis, 32, felt some discomfort in his forearm after taking the loss against the Colorado Rockies on June 23. He said then that he had that kind of pain while he was pitching in Japan and after taking a few weeks off, it went away and he finished the season without an issue.
This time, it does not appear he is as lucky. Jeff Passan later tweeted that Lewis will have Tommy John surgery.
Earlier in the day, Lewis was placed on the disabled list and Martin Perez was called up take his spot in the rotation. With eight days until the trade deadline, the Rangers could be looking to add another pitcher.
