Jarrod Parker Flirts With No-Hitter, A's Dismantle Rangers

Oakland A's rookie pitcher Jarrod Parker flirted with a no-hitter on Monday night, as the Athletics blew out the Rangers 12-1.

Parker took his no-hit bid into the eighth inning, but gave up a lead-off single to Michael Young, ending Parker's no-hit bid. Parker was allowed to finish the eighth inning regardless, and finished the game pitching eight shutout innings, allowing just one hit, walking three and striking out six.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, Scott Feldman was as bad as Parker was good on Monday night. Feldman failed to escape the second inning, giving up eight runs on seven hits and a walk in just one and two thirds innings of work. All of the runs charged to Feldman were given up in the second inning.

Brandon Inge gave the A's the lead in the second inning after belting a three-run homer off of Feldman, scoring both Seth Smith and Yoenis Cespedes. Smith was Oakland's offensive star of the night, recording four hits, including a double and triple.

Craig Gentry found himself on the mound in the eighth inning for the Rangers, as Ron Washington opted against burning more relief pitchers in a blowout game. Gentry gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in his relief effort.
