Josh Hamilton Will Win The Triple Crown

It's official!

One of the neater offerings of FanGraphs is daily updates of the ZiPS forecast system. As each passing day offers a little bit more information, ZiPS slightly adjusts based on how it expects players to perform going forward. This is listed as "ZiPS (RoS)," RoS meaning "Rest of Season." Adding RoS to what a player has already done gives you the final line ZiPS expects a player to have once the season is over, listed as "ZiPS (U)," for "update."

Following his four homer epic spectacular Tuesday night, Hamilton is now projected to end up with 38 home runs, a .325 batting average, and 117 RBI. The latter two numbers are projected to lead all of baseball, while the HR is projected to lead the AL.

So, there you have it. Josh Hamilton is more likely than not to be the first player since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 to win the Triple Crown (at least according to one guy's excellent forecast). Yes, I did spell Yastrzemski without looking it up.

And also Elvis Andrus is projected to end up with more Wins Above Replacement than Albert Pujols.
