The Marlins Signed Michael Main... As An Outfielder

Stay connected for news and updates

Former Texas Rangers first round pick Michael Main signed with the Miami Marlins, not long after being released by the San Francisco Giants at the end of Spring Training. The interesting thing about this signing? Miami didn't sign him to pitch.

Main is a quality athlete, and was once regarded as a good centerfielder when he was in high school, so there might be something here. The odds, of course, are stacked heavily against the 23 year old Main, but he's certainly going to be worth rooting for.

Adam Loewen and Rick Ankiel are two recent examples of pitchers that struggled and converted to the outfield. Ankiel has put together a respectable career as a fourth outfielder, so here's hoping that Main can somehow do the same.
