Michael Young reportedly accepts trade to Phillies

Kelley L Cox-US PRESSWIRE

The Rangers will acquire two young bullpen arms in exchange for Michael Young on Saturday.

The Texas Rangers have traded infielder Michael Young to the Philadelphia Phillies, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale. The Rangers will reportedly receive Josh Lindblom and Lisalverto Bonilla in return, per TR Sullivan.

In order for Young to approve the deal, the Rangers were forced to give the veteran $1.2 million in benefits. In addition, Young will have a full no-trade clause in Philly, and an extension won't be part of the deal, per Nightengale. The Rangers are expected to eat about half of the $16 million owed to Young in 2013.

Young, 36, hit .277/.312/.370 for the Rangers in 2012. That batting line represented the worst that Young has posted in ten years, and it was certainly a far cry from the .338/.380/.474 line he put up in 2011. Prior to that season, Young was nearly traded, but the Rangers reportedly backed away from a deal with the Colorado Rockies at the last minute.

Lindblom has spent time with the Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers during the past two seasons. In 100 2/3 career big league innings, Lindblom owns a 3.31 ERA while striking out nearly a batter per inning. Walks have been an issue for the 25-year-old righty, particularly while with the Phillies in 2012, when he walked 6.6 batters per nine innings.

Bonilla, 22, owns a career 2.50 minor league ERA. He split time between High-A and Double-A in 2012, posting a 1.55 ERA in 46 1/3 innings. He struck out 64 batters and walked 21.
