Michael Young could play for Team Mexico

Former Texas Rangers infielder Michael Young could find himself playing third base for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic.

Though it's not even a fraction as popular as the World Cup, baseball's World Baseball Classic will be held this spring -- and let's face it, we'll still probably watch even if the game's best starting pitchers aren't out there risking injury.

Rosters haven't been finalized yet, but an interesting tidbit came up this past week: former Rangers infielder Michael Young could play for Team Mexico. Per the Dallas Morning News, Team Mexico lists Young as a candidate for its roster, and Gerry Fraley points out that Young is a candidate to play for Team Mexico because his mother is of Mexican descent.

Seeing Young in Philadelphia's pinstripes will be strange enough, but seeing Young in a Team Mexico uniform? That would be especially odd, considering that Young was a member of Team USA back in 2006.

Japan has won both previous World Baseball Classics, held in 2006 and in 2009.
