The 36-year-old Tateyama appeared in 14 games for the Rangers during the 2012 season, posting a 1-0 record with a 9.00 ERA and a 1.412 WHIP in 17 innings of work. He also spent time at Triple-A Round Rock last season, where he was 4-0 with six saves and a 1.13 ERA in 32 appearances.
In signing Tateyama, the Rangers add another candidate to fill the void in the club's bullpen left by the departure of Mike Adams, Scott Feldman, Koji Uehara and the move of Alexi Ogando from the bullpen to the starting rotation. The club has signed Joakim Soria -- who is due back from arm surgery in May or June -- and acquired Josh Lindblom, Coty Woods, Tommy Hottovy this offseason.
The signing of Tateyama gives Texas 59 players on their spring training roster.
