Milwaukee Brewers remain interested in Josh Hamilton

Free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton's name continues to be linked to the Milwaukee Brewers.

One potential road block in the Texas Rangers' attempts to keep free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton could be the Milwaukee Brewers, who are reportedly also interested in the market's other top free agent, Zack Greinke, as Jon Heyman of CBS Sports writes.

Both free agents would impact the Rangers, as Greinke is expected to be a target for the AL West rival Angels, who traded for Greinke from the Brewers in the summer. But both Greinke and Hamilton are long shots to land in Milwaukee, which is a small market by baseball standards. Brewers GM Doug Melvin admitted as much, joking the team would need help from U.S. Bank to land a big free agent.

Still, Heyman writes that many with the team believe Milwaukee is the right-sized market for Hamilton. There's also the link of Brewers hitting coach Johnny Narron, who was Hamilton's first life coach in Cincinnati and Texas.

Melvin hinted his team was set in center field with Carlos Gomez still on the roster, if that gives Rangers fans any hope the Brewers won't pursue the talented slugger.

Hamilton hit .285 with 43 home runs and 128 RBIs in 2012.
