Ron Washington has managed the Texas Rangers to two consecutive appearances to the World Series. In kind, the Rangers have extended his contract through 2014 on Monday.
Rangers manager Ron Washington will get another shot to outwit former Cardinals manager Tony La Russa. Unfortunately, the potential revenge won't be that sweet for Washington, as La Russa is only coming out of retirement to manage the National League in the 2012 All Star Game in Kansas City.
"He deserved to be the manager of the All-Star Game. He won the World Series," Washington said Tuesday. "It's nice that baseball reached out to him to make sure he had the opportunity to do that and I'm glad Tony accepted."
"I'm looking forward to managing that game again," Washington said. "I'd like another shot at beating the NL team. Hopefully, we can come away with a win this time."
Hopefully for Washington's sake, he does come away with a win. The last two years, the National League has won the All Star game, resulting in home field advantage in the World Series for both the Giants and the Cardinals. Texas is certainly in good position to compete once again for the American League pennant, so winning this exhibition game could help the Rangers bring home a World Series title.
Hopefully for La Russa, the bullpen phones are working properly.
Ron Washington And The Texas Rangers Agree On Contract Extension Through 2014
Ron Washington has coached up the young talent and savvy veterans that make up the Texas Rangers to the World Series for two years in a row. For his hard work and dedication, the Rangers have extended his contract through the 2014 season.
Rangers general manager John Daniels hired Washington back in 2007 in five seasons under "Uncle Ron's" tutelage the Rangers win percentage has climbed higher every year. Daniels reflected on the hire and the expectations that were ahead for Washington at the time.
Whatever you may think about Ron Washington, the proof is in the pudding. He gets his team ready to win and they play hard for him. He's now one of the most respected managers in the game and he's not going anywhere anytime soon.
