The plan was for Josh Hamilton's father-in-law, Michael Dean Chadwick, to be his "accountability partner" this season, replacing the departed Johnny Narron. All we know currently is that the father of Hamilton's saint wife decided that it was in the best interest of his family to not fulfill the role.
Hamilton maintains in radio interviews that he doesn't feel like the role is necessary - despite his Arizona episode before the 2010 season - but accepts it to appease MLB and the Rangers. The Rangers are certain to find someone else to fill the role, but they're running out of people as close to Hamilton as Narron and Chadwick, who has been a positive influence on him since his darkest days.
