T.R. Sullivan posted an update to his blog stating that Scott Feldman will be activated from the disabled list on Thursday.
Pitcher Scott Feldman will be activated tomorrow off the disabled list according to sources. The Rangers are still planning that move. There are reports that Feldman has been put on waivers but he will be activated by the Rangers on Thursday
This, obviously, contradicts what had been previously reported – which was that Feldman was placed on waivers so that he could essentially toil in the minor leagues until he’s needed in Arlington.
It’s safe to say there’s some confusion now with what’s going on with Feldman, but everything should (hopefully) be clear prior to Texas’ game against Seattle tomorrow night.
The Texas Rangers have placed rehabbing pitcher Scott Feldman on waivers, for the purpose of removing him from the 40-man roster. Feldman, who has been rehabbing while recovering from microfracture surgery on his knee, is likely to pass through waivers unclaimed thanks to being owed millions on his contract - with over four million due this year and six million due next year.
It had been speculated by many that Feldman would replace the struggling Derek Holland in the rotation after the All-Star Break. However, Holland's complete game shutout performance last week has given manager Ron Washington renewed faith in the young lefty.
Feldman has logged nearly 50 innings in the minor leagues this year, pitching 49.2 innings between AA and AAA while rehabbing. He's allowed 53 hits (.275 average against), while walking 11 and striking out 32. Feldman will continue to pitch in the minors until he's needed in Arlington, at which point he'd need to be placed back on the 40-man roster.
