Just In Case

. . . let's savor this for a moment.

If Michael Young is going to be traded, it's nice to know it came after he finally had a big post season moment with the Rangers.

As much as this move makes sense, I wish they would've pulled the trigger earlier while there were still a plethora of bench bats available.

While a platoon of Murphy/Napoli at DH is an improvement, it’s hard to imagine Murphy won’t end up playing a ton in the OF given the fragility of Hamilton and Cruz. God forbid Moreland struggles against lefties, because then they’d be stretched really thin.

Yeah, thinking some about it

this is pretty certain to hurt them this year. Assuming that they don’t pay too much of his contract in 2012 and 2013 it should be well worth it, but it is most likely a step back for 2011. Of course I wouldn’t say that if the move is discussed in tandem with Beltre and/or Napoli.

Also, with Colorado’s glut of 2B-SS-3B, you know they’ll get one of them back, whether it’s Lopez of someone else. And not that I agree with it, but my guess would be that even if they had a full slate of options they wouldn’t necessarily add a bat-oriented bench guy to replace Young. I don’t really agree, but I think they’d still go more defensive with the spot.

That would be disappointing.

There’s no one in Round Rock that’s capable of providing a warm bat off the bench, but there are a few guys that could be capable defensively. I would hope they wouldn’t go the defensive route.
