We're expected to find out in the near future who, among bidding Major League Baseball teams, had the highest bid for Yu Darvish's posting fee. The Rangers all along have been expected to be in the mix for Darvish's services, and it seems like the Blue Jays, Yankees and Cubs are among the teams in the mix as well.↵
While the Rangers might not win the bid on Darvish, that they're so interested in him is a bit telling. The posting fee on Darvish is expected to be around $50,000,000 -- and that's just for the exclusive right to negotiate with Darvish. If no contract agreement is reached, then the money is returned to the winning organization.
That said, if the Rangers are willing to spend so much on Darvish, what does it say about what the organization thinks about C.J. Wilson? Wilson wound up receiving a relatively modest contract from the Angels, five yearas, $75 million dollars, and it's certainly likely the posting fee alone will eclipse more than half the value of Wilson's deal.↵
Do the Rangers think that Wilson will break down sooner rather than later? Or was he just that much of a pain to deal with in the clubhouse? While Wilson has only started for two seasons in the MLB, that's two more than Darvish has. Darvish represents a complete unknown in terms of production, whereas you should know what to expect from Wilson.↵
Of course, it's also possible that Texas' bid isn't anywhere near $50,000,000, and that this is all moot. Still, it's interesting to consider what Texas' interest in Darvish says about Wilson.↵
